At Sandycroft Primary School we recognised that many of our parents were facing challenging times due to the pandemic and the recent rise to the cost of living.  We had seen first hand the impact that this was having on the welfare of parents and the well-being of their children. Therefore, we decided to work in partnership with NEO Community to open up a Social Supermarket within our school grounds.

Neo Community aims to address food poverty, raise food awareness and reduce food waste.  They have nurtured and maintained strong links with local supermarkets and food retailers , allowing them to develop a surplus food and supplies offering which enables us to have regular deliveries of stock into our shop.  We also receive weekly deliveries of chicken from local company Two Sisters.

The supermarket runs on a pay as you feel basis. Therefore, people can access food whether they feel they can make a fair contribution or not, depending on their financial circumstances. The shop is cashless so only card payments are accepted.  All monies received go back to NEO Community.

The supermarket is run by our children giving them the opportunity to develop a range of skills as shopkeepers.

The supermarket is open to the children, parents and members of our community.

The opening times of the shop are:

• Monday            3pm to 3.30 pm
• Wednesday       3pm to 3.30pm 
• Friday               3pm to 3.30pm 

We sometimes have to change these days or times depending on deliveries, but we always inform parents in advance by email
